If you need a place to stay when travelling between South Africa and Mozambique, having used the Giriyondo border post on Kruger’s eastern border, you may want to consider overnighting at the Campismo Aguia Pesqueira. This is if you have a tent or caravan.

The camp, roughly translated as ‘the place of the fish eagle’, is situated about 230km from Massingir in the Limpopo National Park (LNP) and has 10 very neat individual camping sites, all with views of the Massingir Dam.

It also has an ‘overlander’ camping site, catering for bigger safari-type groups with its own ablution facilities, a braai area and tent sites. The facilities have solar power.

The ablution facilities and kitchen are beautifully built in a variation of the local Shangaan style. The camp is one of the LNP’s new products and opened for business late last year.

“We have already had more than 250 visitors from December 2005 to February this year,” says Antonio Chemane, camp manager.

Watch out for the sign on the main road between Massingir and Giriyondo from where the camp is another seven kilometres.
